Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How does a weighted GPA calculator differ from unweighted?

An unweighted GPA uses a standard 4.0 scale for all courses. A weighted GPA calculator uses a 5.0 scale and awards extra points for advanced coursework — an A in AP or IB = 5.0, in Honors = 4.5, in Regular = 4.0. Weighted GPA rewards students for taking harder classes.

How is cumulative GPA calculated?

Cumulative GPA = Total Quality Points ÷ Total Credit Hours, accumulated across all semesters. Our cumulative GPA calculator does this automatically as you add semesters. For example: two semesters with 33.6 quality points over 12 credit hours gives a CGPA of 2.80.

What is a final grade calculator?

A final grade calculator tells you the minimum exam score needed to achieve your desired course grade. Formula: Required Score = (Target Grade – Current Grade × Current Weight) ÷ Final Exam Weight.

How do I convert CGPA to percentage?

For the Indian CBSE/university 10-point scale: Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. So a CGPA of 8.5 = 80.75%. Different universities may use different multipliers — always check your institution's official formula.

What is an ECTS calculator for European students?

The ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) enables grade conversion across EU universities. Our ECTS grade calculator maps national grades (percentage or letter) to the standardised ECTS A–F scale used throughout Europe.

What is a college GPA calculator vs. a high school GPA calculator?

Both use the same underlying 4.0 formula. The main difference is course weighting: high school GPA calculators often use a 5.0 weighted scale to account for AP, Honors, and IB courses. College GPA calculators typically use the unweighted 4.0 scale unless your institution specifies otherwise.

Weighted GPA Calculator vs. Unweighted 4.0 Scale

The key difference between weighted and unweighted GPA lies in how advanced courses are scored. A weighted GPA calculator rewards students who take challenging AP, Honors, and IB coursework with additional grade points.
